The Ribble Valley Food Trail is causing quite a stir amongst food lovers so with a husband celebrating a birthday I decided we would venture away from our usual haunts and hit the east side of the M6 for a change. As this was a family meal The White Bull at Ribchester with their outdoor play area seemed a good choice and I'm pleased to say we weren't disappointed.
Opting to go straight to our table the menu was a single sheet of A4 paper which suggested to me that it changes so regularly that they don't have time to send it to a printers. Reading the menu it was full of local seasonal produce leaving us spoilt for choice. A choice of six starters and six main courses supplemented by further choices on the blackboard had my husband choosing wild mushrooms in garlic to start with whilst I opted for the smoked salmon with a dill creme fraiche. Both were delicious, flavoursome and plentiful.
Choosing a main course proved more difficult with both of us being unable to decide between the roast fillet of beef with asparagus and green beans or the rack of lamb with ratatouille. In the end we both decided to have the roast fillet which was melt in the mouth scrummy but which we would have preferred cooked slightly less. My 10 year old went for the rib eye steak - he's cheap to take out!! - served with chips and declared it delicious. I must agree and the chips were the best I've tasted for a long time. A couple of latte coffees finished us off nicely before our drive back home.
