The Ramblers has named Pendle Hill in Lancashire as one of Britain’s most stunning viewpoints in its new book ‘Walk Britain’s Great Views’.
For the first time ever Britain’s walking charity, renowned for its walking expertise, has compiled a book of walks that showcase Britain’s best views, all of which can only be reached on foot.
Britain’s walking charity has described the hill in North East Lancashire as: ‘Lancashire’s answer to Ayres Rock… whose summit – ‘the Big
End’ – provides an unrivalled viewpoint over Yorkshire’s Three Peaks to the distant fells of the Lake District, and across the coastal plain to Blackpool and the Irish Sea.’
The Lancashire route is one of 50 walks, the crème of the 140,000-strong Ramblers members favourite walks, that will be published in a glossy guidebook ‘Walk Britain’s Great Views’ in May. Each walk is accompanied by top quality photographs, maps, seasonal tips and expert commentary.
Tom Franklin, chief executive, said: “Our members are passionate about walking so who better to recommend the best places in Britain to see a great view on a walk. Each walk is graded by difficulty and outlines the best time of year to go so you can see at a glance which walk is best for you. A great view is something that stays with you for the rest of your life, especially if you’ve walked for it.”
And if you want to join a Ramblers walk why not take part in the Ramblers programme of summer strolls which run from June to September. Hundreds of after-work strolls will take place, ranging from three to seven miles, in cities and countryside alike. All are free, open to all and designed to suit all tastes from family friendly walks to strolls for people in their 20s and 30s. Log on www.ramblers.org.uk for further information.
‘Walk Britain’s Great Views’ guidebook is published by the Ramblers, and available from all good bookshops prices £14.99 or free to Ramblers’ members. It is available in shops from 1st May onwards.
