Here at the tourist board we’re now taking a deep breath after the success of last week’s Lancashire and Blackpool Tourism Awards held at Ribby Hall.
Arriving at the event, I was concerned that the rain would take the shine off the event. I couldn’t have been more wrong! The Lancashire Sinfonietta played in the background and with a glass of bubbly in one hand, as the Membership Executive, it gave me a great opportunity to catch up with tourist board members, old and new, and wish them good luck.
The best of Lancashire’s produce (food, personalities and businesses) all had their time in the limelight. Lancashire food included Lytham Bay Shrimps, Goosnargh Chicken, Mrs Kirkham’s Lancashire Cheeses and Fylde Grown Strawberries. Lancastrians on stage included Stuart Maconie, the presenter of the awards, who’s passion for everything Lancashire was clear for all to see. His technique with at tombola was a vision to behold. The real stars, however, were the Lancashire businesses; many who had rewarded their staff by bringing their entire teams along to the event, raising both the glamour stakes and the noise level. The celebrations continued for hours after the awards, with many businesses having to make alternative arrangements to bring in extra staff to cook that night’s guest dinners!
