I was lucky enough to be invited to the preview of La Clique, which is part of the Showzam! festival taking place in Blackpool during February 2010. Not quite sure what to expect and having seen many circuses in the past, I sat down in the beautiful setting of the Blackpool Tower Circus Arena and hoped to be impressed. Boy, was I impressed! Absolutely amazing from start to finish is the only way I can describe it.
The shows opening bars of Nessun Dorma from ‘Le Gateau Chocolate’ sent shivers down my spine. Audience participation is a must and one lucky girl even got the chance to join in with the roller skating, much to her delight! My personal favourite though was a double-jointed gentleman from Norway called Frodo (you just have to see it to believe it) known as the Rubber Man doing strange things with tennis rackets and metal tins who managed to make everyone’s eyes water but had the crowd in stitches. There’s a number of other acts too and the whole presentation will leave you stunned and breathless at their sheer skill and entertainment. This show is a real credit to Blackpool and I am so glad to have seen it. I can see why it has pioneered new variety and taken the world by storm. Brilliant.
