After a slow Sunday morning, I decided to load the car with the younger members of my family for a trip to Fleetwood to visit Farmer Parrs Animal Farm.
The journey from Preston started off well; however there was a slight ‘diversion’ through Singleton village and some narrow but quaint country lanes. After half an hour sheep spotting from the loaded car we eventually arrived at a very well sign posted Farmer Parrs.
Full of excitement that we had arrived and the sun had come out we entered the farm, unsure of what to do first. The pony ride, the tractor ride or see the animals. My bossy 3 year old niece instructed us all ‘I’ve been here before we should go and see the goats, they're the best’. For 3 she is very bright and of course has a taste for cute animals, but she was right the goats were the best. As was Oliver the tame sheep who accompanied them in the barn.
Whilst ooh-ing and ahh-ing over the goats the tannoy announced the tractor and pony rides were about to take place. As a group we decided to go on the tractor ride, this was a bumpy but fun journey round the farm where we saw horses cantering in the field enjoying the hazy sunshine. After the thrill of the tractor ride we decided to make the most of the sun and enjoy some of Famer Parrs homemade ice cream.
The children seemed to think it was all over, but it wasn’t we still had the museum to see and a collection of other animals, including some baby chicks in the incubation room, some large cattle, sheep, lamas and the wallabies.
The museum proved to be a roaring success; I was impressed with the enthusiasm for past the younger members of my family had and thought what a good educational outlet is was to have.
Unfortunately we didn’t have time to do the pottery but everyone agreed it was worth a trip back to do another day as there was lots going on, and we all wanted an excuse to see the goats again.
