Only days to go to the Leyland Festival 2011 and the preparations are in full swing. I’m running round helping my Regeneration Team colleagues and our partners on the Festival Committee to put the last minute arrangements in place to make sure that everything will run smoothly on 9th & 10th July.
One of my main tasks has been to spread the word and make sure that as many people as possible know about the Festival through flyers, posters, papers and websites etc - not forgetting Twitter and Facebook.
This week, I’ve been getting information out to help people book places on the Leyland Trucks factory tours, enter their dogs in one of our Paws in the Park dog show classes and take part in the Lancashire Bushtucker Trials, eating pig’s trotters and other interesting things. Yuck!
Yesterday, I arranged for the Green Goddess from the British Commercial Vehicle Museum up to Preston Flag Market to promote the Festival. Today, I’m making signs, answering lots of enquiries from people wanting to visit (which is great), helping with arrangements for the exhibitors – oh and writing this blog.
Our small team seems to be growing as we gather any volunteers that we can get our hands on. At the moment, we have a production line going next to me to produce badges and information for all the businesses and local community organisations that are taking part.
My colleague, Karen, is just putting the finishing touches to the entertainment programme with lots of young rock/pop/indie bands performing and the famous Leyland Brass Band. We’ve got all sorts of things going on at the Festival this weekend so we’re working out how to fit in everything from businesses selling homemade fudge and jewellery to woodcraft and chocolate making demonstrations, face painting, children’s art, Tonka racing, Bumpazorbing, helicopter rides and all the doggie workshops, demonstrations and agility. I think we’ll need more marker tape…
I love the buzz leading up to the event, it’s madly busy in the office but everyone is focussed on making it a great Festival again. By Sunday, I think all our team will be looking forward to a trip to the Beer Festival, which is running all weekend at Worden Arts Centre (they are also serving soft drinks for drivers) and putting our feet up but it will have been well worth all the effort.
The Leyland Festival Weekend marks the start of the Lancashire Transport Week 2011 which is a new and unique week of exciting events for the whole family to enjoy.
