As a child growing up in the 80s I remember listening to the radio on a Sunday bopping around my bedroom in my leg warmers singing into my hair-bush to all of the great 80s hits (we all did that didn’t we?). And on Friday night all of those fantastic childhood memories came flooding back as soon as Captain Sensible opened 80s v 90s evening and start of the three day musical spectacular that is Lytham Proms.
Having got caught in a downpour earlier in the day, we arrived on Lytham green with the iconic windmill to a fantastic summer evening and a great festival vibe. After Captain Sensible we reveled in China Crisis, The Christians, Brother Beyond, Hue and Cry and Howard Jones. Heading into the 90s with Atomic Kitten, B*Witched, Heather Small and Blue. Before ending the night on a high with ABC featuring hits When Smokey Sings and The Look of Love.
Despite being an 80s girl my personal favorite of the night had to be Heather Small who really did show off her amazing vocal capabilities, performing those M People anthems; Moving On Up, One Night in Heaven and Search For a Hero.
The atmosphere was electric and those who were too young to have enjoyed the bands the first time round still knew all of the songs!
Now in its fifth year Lytham Proms has gone from strength to strength with over 30,000 people in attendance and you can understand why, the choice of music on offer over the three days is vast, from the 80/90s era on the Friday, Tom Jones on the Saturday to Michael Ball and the world renowned Halle Orchestra completing the weekend on the Sunday
Organiser’s Cuff & Taylor have worked hard to bring this quality event to Lytham and I can’t wait to see who is on the line up for next year!
