2015 promises to be another action packed year in Lancashire including a fantastic range of events and things to do across the county.
Whether you want to fly like the Red Arrows, celebrate 40 years of wildlife conservation at WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre, spend a week in Lytham for the new Proms Festival or indulge in a gourmet break at Northcote in the Ribble Valley, you'll find it all in Lancashire during 2015.
WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre Celebrates 40 Years
From humble beginnings back in 1975, when the nature reserve first opened its doors to the public, WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre now one of the region’s leading nature reserves attracting record numbers of pink footed geese and other migratory birds. Look out for commemorative events, guided walks and exhibitions throughout the year.
Fly with The Red Arrows
Step into the cockpit of the new Red Arrows Sky Force ride at Blackpool Pleasure Beach from spring 2015 for a 72ft high white knuckle ride that will see you swooping and gliding on a 360 degree tour of the skies. Only for the brave!
UK’S Biggest Walkabout Theatre
You’ll be begging for more at this year’s annual walkabout theatre spectacular in Lancaster’s Williamson Park, as the story of Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist is brought to life from 3 July – 15 August.
A Food Obsession
After £4 million worth of investment the final phase of development at Lancashire’s Michelin Starred hotel & restaurant, Northcote, will be unveiled in early 2015. Coinciding with the hotels 30th year anniversary, the new bedrooms will add to the new cookery school, dining room and private dining areas that were opened in 2014.
Transformation for Guild Hall
The Preston Guild Hall complex is undergoing a massive transformation which will be revealed in 2015 and will host an eclectic mix of retailers, quality dining venues and live entertainment including comedy nights, classical concerts and West End shows.
New Lytham Proms Festival
2015 will see Lytham Proms morph into the week long Lytham Proms Festival from 3-9 August. This bigger, longer and more diverse event will now include more music, live comedy and literature in the line up as well as the ‘Last night at the proms’ classical concert with Elaine Paige and Marti Pellow singing songs from the stage and screen.
A Royal Return
After an eight year gap, the county’s leading agricultural, The Royal Lancashire Show will return to Ribchester from 7-9 August. The line-up includes animal displays, food marquee, craft area and family entertainment.
A Never Ending Love Affair
Voted the most romantic film of all time Brief Encounter will be celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, and the film’s location, Carnforth Station & Heritage Centre, will be
commemorating the anniversary with a new exhibition and events.
Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival
Now in its 26th year, this super cool music extravaganza has won Best European Blues Festival for the past two years and continues to delight audiences from across the world. More than 600 artists will perform in the Pennine Lancashire town of Colne over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
