We were very pleased to hear that five of our wonderful Lancashire businesses have been shortlisted (from 345 entrants no less) for this year’s national tourism awards for excellence organised by VisitEngland. So if you haven’t checked out any or all of the following, now’s the time to do it.
1. Vintage by-the-Sea in Morecambe has been short listed for the national Tourism Event of the year. This annual vintage extravaganza celebrates all things vintage and retro with local lad and inspirational designer Wayne Hemingway at the forefront. A great day out for all ages whether you’re a flapper girl, 1930s GI, stylish mod or punk with attitude – dress in your best and head to Morecambe from 5-6 September 2015.
Must do: Afternoon Tea in the beautiful Art Deco Midland Hotel with views across Morecambe Bay is hard to beat (book in advance)
2. The Parkers Arms, Newton-by-Bowland (nr Clitheroe), short listed for the Taste of England Award. Right in the heart of the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the award winning and much raved about Parkers Arms is well worth the drive (both for the food and the stunning Bowland views along the way). The seasonal menu includes traditional pub food given a truly unique feel by Chef Stosie Madi and her team, using the best local produce. Read Jay Raynor’s Review in Guardian
Must Taste: The black pudding sausage roll with homemade piccalilli is mentioned time and time again by all who visit.
3. Freemasons at Wiswell, near Clitheroe has been shortlisted for the national Tourism Pub of the Year award. Whether it’s a quick salad or sandwich, or to enjoy a luxurious dining experience the team at the Freemason, led by Steven Smith, has repeatedly impressed critics and diners alike, and can now add this latest accolade to its list of multiple awards. Seasonal menus are complimented by cask conditioned ales and extensive wine menu.

4. St Annes Beach Huts, has been shortlisted for Tourism Experience of the Year. Whether you rent for the day, week or year; it’s the ideal beach side base for all the family to relax or celebrate in. We especially love the chic interior and practical touches (fridge, micro wave, deck chairs, cutlery and crockery) so you can concentrate on the really important stuff like relaxing with your friends and family whilst gazing out across the sands. Must do: Tuck into fish & chips and watch the spectacular sunset, from the comfort of your own beach hut.
5. Sandcastle Waterpark, Blackpool, short listed for the national Access for All award. Even as the UK’s biggest indoor Waterpark, Sandcastle still manages to maintain and deliver exceptional customer service for all its guests, and excels as welcoming visitors with access needs who need more individual attention. Water ambassadors are on hand to ensure everyone has a great day, providing specialist equipment, facilities and help to those who need it. A previous winner of this national award, and even if you don’t need any additional help, other than directions to the changing rooms, the staff at Sandcastle are some of the best you’ll find.
Must Do: Don’t go home without trying the Masterblaster, at 250 metres it’s the World's longest indoor rollercoaster waterslide!
