Holidays and days out at the seaside are the stuff of childhood memories. But it doesn’t have to be complicated. Think donkey rides, building sandcastles, fish & chips and you’re already there. Throw in a summer show and you’ve got the makings of a great day out beside the sea.
1. Build a sandcastle, complete with flags and shell decorations
Try the beaches at St Annes, Blackpool, Cleveleys, Fleetwood and Morecambe. Buy an ice cream and encourage the kids to have a donkey ride – what could be simpler? Get more info on beaches in Lancashire
2. See a Summer Show or Circus
CATS is at the Winter Gardens from 9 – 6 Sept and kids go half price Tue-Thurs. Younger audiences will love The Blackpool Tower Circus will its mix of dare-devil stunts and comedic clowns Mooky & Mr Boo (daily except Fridays). Basil Brush is making an appearance at Marine Hall, Fleetwood on 7 August and there’s Sing along Frozen at the Grand Theatre Blackpool on 30 August. For more events
3. Visit childhood favourites
Go to the top of Blackpool Tower, talk a walk along a pier, have your photo taken with a host of celebrities at Madame Tussauds or go on an underwater adventure at SEA LIFE.
4. Hire a Beach Hut
Whatever the weather a Beach Hut is the perfect base for brews, general snoozing, eating fish & chips and summer parties. Hire the award winning St Annes Beach Hut for the day or week, sit back and enjoy the view (and your chips!).
5. SCREAM loudly at a Theme Park or fairground
For serious thrill seekers Blackpool Pleasure Beach is not to be missed AND this year there’s the NEW Sky Force Red Arrows ride to try!
For something more traditional (and less likely to make you scream), Vintage-by-the-Sea in Morecambe (5-6 Sept) includes vintage fairground rides on the promenade with a beautiful carousel and big wheel.
