As the cotton industry boomed in Lancashire a group of prominent industrialists poured their wealth into some of the rarest and astonishing collections in the country.
The Cotton to Gold exhibition is making its way back from Two Temple Place London where it received rave reviews, to its home in Lancashire.
From 12 September until 15 November the exhibition at Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery will reveal the stunning collections held by Lancashire Museums. Best Western Leyland is close to travel connections and makes a great base from which to explore.
The collection showcases the riches gathered by some of the greatest collector-philanthropists of the booming industrial north west, who subsequently donated or bequeathed their collections to Blackburn Museum & Art Gallery, Haworth Art Gallery in Accrington and Towneley Hall Art Gallery and Museum in Burnley.
The selected artefacts range from J.M.W Turner watercolours, intricate Japanese woodprints and Medieval illuminated manuscripts to a Peruvian mummy and a sequential collection of ancient and British coins.
