Blackpool Illuminations & Lightpool, 2 Sept – 6 Nov
With 6 miles of spectacular lights the Blackpool Illumination is still the world’s biggest light show, and a firm family favourite after 103 years. Lightpool runs alongside the Illuminations - look out for a brand new 3D projection show on The Blackpool Tower, which this year features an astronaut exploring new worlds. There will also be a Lightpool Village on the Comedy Carpet and a special Festival of Light running from 28 Oct - 2 November. Find out more
Blackpool World Firework Championship, 9,16,23 & 30 Sept
See the crème de la crème of the world’s firework elite at what promises to be a mouth-watering series of shows with jaw-dropping entertainment for all the family. This year, the fireworks championships will feature teams from Australia, Slovakia and the United States, as well as with a display from UK team Titanium Fireworks. Find out more

Light Up Lancaster, 4-5 Nov
The historic city is transformed into a celebration of light and art, with music, dance and theatre – culminating in a spectacular fireworks display from the top of Lancaster Castle. On Friday evening just turn up to experience a magical trail of art and light, and for Saturday evening you can order your wristbands to view the amazing fireworks display from one of the official viewing areas. NEON: The Charged Line, The Grundy Art Gallery, Blackpool, until 7 Jan
A major new exhibition exploring how artists have worked with neon from the 1960s to the present day. The exhibition encompasses a wide range of ways in which artists have experimented with light designed to be seen rather than illuminate; whether through text and language.
