As a member of the Lancashire Rural Tourism Initiative (LRTi for short) team I was lucky enough to spend yesterday visiting some of the rural tourism businesses that have received funding support from the project. It was great seeing first hand how the grant money had been spent - everything from all-terrain access vehicles for those with limited mobility to new car parks at visitor attractions!
My own personal highlights included the chance to bottle feed lambs at Cobble Hey Farm & Gardens and seeing a new born llama (it was only an hour old) at the Wild Boar park near Chipping - it looked like a very wet faun! The wild boars were also facinating to see close up with the little boarlets looking very happy in the mud! (Incidentally the wild boar park also sells wild boar sausages and steak from their shop!)
We all enjoyed lunch in the tearoom at Cobble Hey farm & Gardens whilst the owner Edwina gave us a potted history of how the farm had diversified and how the grant had benefited the farm. On a warmer day we could have had a look around the prized gardens but it was very windy so we kept our visit brief. I must go back in the summer and do the lapwing walk. I had a great day, learnt lots of new things, increased my product knowledge greatly and after all the fresh air slept like a baby!
