Friday night saw myself and my friend leaving the family at home and heading out of Blackpool for a good old girlie chat over dinner. Having checked out the website for a good recommendation we chose to take a drive up the A6 to the New Holly at Forton. Neither of us had been before but the newly promoted head chef Sam Sanderson had taken part in one of our Lancashire Hot Shots events last year and the feedback had been excellent.
As we pulled into the car park we were both suprised at how busy it was, and also the range of activities available for both adults and children. There is a huge family playing field to the rear of the pub - perfect for those summer evenings. We hadn't booked in advance and although the restaurant was full, after a short wait whilst we had a drink we were led to our table. The menu was fairly extensive and after deliberating whether to try one of the home-made pies I plumped for the beef stroganoff and rice whilst my friend Jo opted for a steak. Both promptly arrived about 15 minutes later and although initially I thought mine looked a little on the small side I can assure you that I was perfectly full by the time I had finished. The sauce the tender steak was in was perfect, subtle but flavoursome and Jo's steak arrived perfectly cooked with homemade chips and onion rings, mushrooms and tomato. Another drink and a bit more gossip completed a lovely evening and we both agreed we would be back - maybe with the family if they behave!
