With the Lancashire weather taking a distinct turn for the colder this weekend, we headed out to the Trough of Bowland to find some snow to keep the kids happy and let the sledges have a run out.
We found a fantastic little area just near Inglewhite which looked utterly beautiful in the winter snowscape and we proceeded to make snowmen, have good old fashioned snowball fights and take advantage of a 100 metre (or so) gentle slope which was a delight for my six year old and three year old.
After a couple hours of this we headed down to Guys Thatched Hamlet near Garstang, where at present you will find a winter fair, complete with ice skating rink, snow tube ride, ferris wheel and a stall offering mulled wine, hot chocolate.
Ben tried ice skating for the first time, and after a hesitant start really started to show off his confidence and thankfully not too many falls and bruises. Julia headed off round the ice as always like Jane Torville – great value at only £5 for 45 minutes skating.
The point of this post is to say that within half an hour of our home near Blackpool we managed to sledge in the hills, ice skate and snow tube and enjoy an outdoor winter experience. Fantastic place Lancashire...

Sounds fabulous Tim and exactly what most of us with (and without)kids have been doing over the last few days.
