The break between Christmas and New Year saw me hankering for a brisk walk and some fresh air so we decided to take a drive up to Morecambe and have lunch at The Midland Hotel. I haven’t been since English Lakes Hotels took over the management of the property and the rest of the family hadn’t been at all.
Walking into the hotel a few design changes have taken place but the building still exudes an air of mystery and bygone era about it. We wandered through to the Rotunda bar where the views over the snow capped mountains of the Lake District were picture post card perfect.
I love the tapas boards here so between us we filled up on smoked salmon, Parma ham and pork pie served on beautiful wooden platters with fresh bread and salad accompaniment. A portion of chips and onion rings between us ensured we were fuelled up enough to take a brisk walk along the coastline.
Unfortunately the freezing weather started to get the best of us and we returned home with our rosy cheeks to another evening by the fire.
