It was a real pleasure to enjoy the spectacular that is the famous Blackpool Tower Circus. In its 116th year, this seasons offering is the Chinese themed spectacular Mooky’s Eastern Promise, featuring Mooky the clown, Mr Boo and a Chinese cast of acrobats, balancing acts, Diablo artists, Shaolin Monks and a whole lot more, under the watchful eye of Ring Master Mr Harvey Seager and produced and directed by Hungarian Mr Laci Endresz Snr.
So there I was in the spectacular Circus Arena, with my wife and two young sons complete with popcorn, chocolate and other refreshments.
Lights down and on came Mooky to start the proceedings. Clearly a hit with young and old alike, the show allowed him to show off his comedic skills, fantastic juggling ability, unicycling and acrobatic skills. My personal favourite was however post interval when Mooky and a few audience members produced their own theatrical production – fantastic and had everyone in stitches.
In the 2010 Year of the Dragon, the Chinese troupe members showed off their skills and our 7 year old really liked the martial arts performance from the Shaolin Monks and what you shouldn’t do with rulers and swords – phenomenal skills and do not try this at home! There were also great displays from acrobatic troupes and also balancing nine people on to a bicycle whilst touring the circus ring. The favourite for our three year old was however the water finale - no matter how many times you have seen it, seeing the circus ring fill up with 42,000 gallons of water is always a special moment, and the balancing act in time with the Chinese music gave a very atmospheric end to the show, even complete with water fountains and trapeze acts.
We would definitely recommend the show which runs through to November 7th. A definite must see and fun for all ages. Click here for more information.
