On Friday night we decided to go for a rare night out. No children, so just the two of us for a grown-up night and a plan to drink wine.
In order to decide where to go - the first criteria was that it had to be a taxi ride away. So Blackpool, St. Annes and Lytham was the target area. To narrow it down we used the new Lancashire Food and Drink Guide - a choice now of only 23 places holding the Taste Lancashire quality award!
It then became a bit random and I decided I fancied a trip back to Cafe Grand at the Grand Hotel at St. Annes. Despite having my 40th party there and evening drinks at my wedding; I've never actually been in the restaurant for a meal.
It took about half an hour to decide what to chose from the menu - we actually wanted some of everything - and despite the 'tapas' style format just couldn't manage to do this. Many dishes later I'll recommend the seared Tuna as my favourite. Also the wine menu enabled me to order an oaked Chardonnay - a deeply unfashionable wine for most people but I was so pleased not to have to drink something that tasted 'zingy'.
The service from the staff was impeccable and our view gave us an insight into how calm and controlled the kitchen was. The Grand definately made our treat of an evening Grand indeed. Comfy seats and a lively but not noisy atmosphere rounded it off well.

It's a useful little publication, that Food and Drink guide! We used it to select a restaurant for our large family group to dine at a few weeks ago - we were looking for somewhere within a half hour drive from where we live, in the countryside and with an outdoor seating area and ended up having a pleasant meal at the Waddington Arms.
