The Beach House on Blackpool Promenade has long been a favorite hangout of mine and I always make a point of calling in whenever I’m in town. With laid back beats, amazing cocktails and stunning sunsets it reminds me a little of Cafe Mambo in Ibiza and it certainly looks and feels the part. The modern, minimalist decor, excellent service and a relaxed atmosphere put this bar at the top of my list for a pre-show Bellini before heading across to the Tower.
Up next was Showzam and the Carnival Ball held within the magnificent Blackpool Tower Ballroom. The show is just one element of a week long festival which seems to growing in popularity each year and features an array of wacky and wonderful performers from all over the world.
Our compare for the night was the acclaimed Jonny Woo, who took delight on pulling punters out from the audience and making fools of them on stage. The real stars of the show were the acts who covered everything from burlesque to ballet, with plenty of back flips and fire breathing along the way.
A Sunday stroll around Stanley Park brought back fond memories of hiring a rowing boat when I was a small child. It’s pleasing to see that the area hasn’t changed much from my previous visit and with the help of a big Lottery investment the park has managed to preserve and restore its architectural gems including the band stand, the formal gardens and the stunning art decor cafe.
Unfortunately the boat hire pavilion wasn't open for business in February, so a lap of the lake with a cup of coffee was good enough as we strolled past the ducks, geese and young swans.
Ever since I heard about Twelve Restaurant and Bar I have wanted to pay their award winning eatery a visit. With Michelin Bib Gourmand status and two AA rosettes already awarded it seemed like the perfect place to finish off the weekend. Located in the shadow of an historic windmill the building is now a mixture of exposed brickwork and beams alongside modern glass and steel.
The food was delicious! It had to be the Sunday roast which was washed down with a perfect pint of Thwaites. The presentation and service was spot on and I’m already looking forward to a return visit with a few more friends.
As the sun was setting on our drive home it drew our attention to Rossall Point on the horizon.
We parked up and had a short walk over the dunes and along the promenade for a closer look at the gravity defying watchtower and took in the stunning views across to Morecambe Bay and the Lake District.
