There’s not long left until the Chorley Grand Prix comes to town on Saturday 4 April but there are still plenty of ways you and your family can get involved in the occasion. Here are our top ten tips!
- Create - Mark the Chorley Grand Prix route by creating your own bunting or knitted display on your property to welcome the elite cyclists to your area. Stewards will also be handing out chalk to spectators on the day of the race to create a welcome message.
- Participate - Come down to the Chorley Council cycle village on Park Road on the day of the race and have a ‘wheelie’ good time taking part in the many fun for all ages cycling activities including balance bikes; pedal for a smoothie, test your cycling ability on our static bike challenge, cycling arts and crafts, cakes and much more.
- Bake - If you live along the route or know someone who does, bake your own Chorley Grand Prix or bicycle cakes for other spectators. You could raise money and ask for a charitable donation in return for one of your cakes.
- Decorate - Decorate an old bicycle using a range of materials and put it on display along the route. Anything from knitted covers to paint could create a visual masterpiece.
- Sprint - If you’re under the age of 16, enter the Chorley Grand Prix sprint the finish cycle challenge to get the chance to ride your bike across the finish line.
- Ride - Take part in one of the many British Cycling Sky Ride Locals or the women’s only Breeze rides. There’s one Sky Ride Local on the day of the Chorley Grand Prix and two Breeze rides, plus many more lined up over the spring and summer months. To take part visit goskyride.com/chorley and sign up for the cycle ride of your choice.
- Fly the flag - Encourage your community group or school to take part in a flag or banner making competition and bring your flags and banners on the day.
- Buy a bike – Check out your local cycle shop for Chorley Grand Prix offers and get the whole family cycling.
- Get a bike M.O.T. – Bring your bicycle into Chorley town centre on the day of the Chorley Grand Prix and take advantage of free bike marking and bicycle maintenance tips at the Chorley Council cycle village.
- Cheer them on – Line the route of the Chorley Grand Prix and cheer on the cyclists every time they go passed. They will be cycling five laps of the circuit so get ready to show your support!
