Spring into Lancashire during English Tourism Week

This year the English Tourism Week (14-22 March) coincides with the first day of Spring – so what better way to celebrate Lancashire’s fantastic choice of visitor experiences than with our 
Top Five Things to do in Lancashire this Spring.

1. Celebrate the natural world with a visit to a nature reserve. 
See Avocets at WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre, Burscough which is celebrating its 40^th year with events throughout 2015. The new hide at Brockholes Nature Reserve near Preston (just off J31) with floor to ceiling glass gives visitors a brand new way to view the birdlife on No 1 Pit Lake and the new Sand Martin Wall.  See more nature reserves in Lancashire

2. Get out and about in Lancashire’s Countryside. 
Blow away the cobwebs and clear your head with a walk or cycle ride through the Forest of Bowland AONB or take an easier route along one of our canals. The seriously active should try Go Ape Rivington for some real fun swinging, climbing and jumping through the treetops. However the less active don’t have to miss out  –  take a ride on the East Lancashire Railway from Rawtenstall to experience the Pennine Countryside from the comforts of a vintage train.

3. Nurture a new life at one of Lancashire’s animal attractions. 
Feed a lamb, hold a chick or simply marvel at all the baby animals at our farm, and zoo attractions. Horse and Pony fans will love World Horse Welfare Penny Farm near Blackpool or how about helping to feed the giraffes at Blackpool Zoo? See more animal attractions in Lancashire

 

 

4. Spring clean your palette with a trip to a farm shop, farmers market or food Festival. Looking head to April, the Great British Food Festival at Stonyhurst College from 10 -12 April, features over 80 local producers, chef demos, baking competitions, real ale and fine wines and loads of activities for kids. 5. Admire a coastal view
Hire a Beach Hut at St Annes and you can admire the view of the sands and pier from the warmth and comforts of your own chic beach hut – complete with kettle, microwave, fridge and radio. Visit the Art Deco Midland Hotel in Morecambe for a very stylish afternoon tea with a stunning view of the Bay or wrap up warm and head to Rossall Tower in Fleetwood with your binoculars to see wildlife on the Wyre estuary and across the Bay. And if you’re feeling adventurous take a sail on Morecambe Bay with one of our sailing operators to see dolphins and seals.
