Brush up on your history and have some fun at these fantastic family events happening in Lancashire over the summer.
1.Fleetwood Festival of Transport, Fleetwood
19 July
Over 200 different classic and vintage vehicles, including trams, are on display (following a parade through the town) along with fairground rides, stalls, live performances and entertainment from Spareparts Arts.
2. Lytham 1940s Wartime Festival, Lytham Green
19-20 August
Historic Vehicles, music and dance, memorabilia, thrilling battles, educational talks and demonstrations plus living history camp. Witness a mock WW2 battle scene using authentic uniforms and equipment.
3. Burnley Canal Festival, The Inn on the Wharf, Burnley
29-30 August
As well as a collection of colourful narrowboats and barges there’s live music, craft stalls, a food market, raft racing, boat trips and behind-the-scenes tours of historic canal side buildings.
4. Samlesbury Skirmish, Samlesbury Hall near Preston
30-31 August
Try your hand at archery, watch a re-enactment of the battle of Preston and feast on medieval food in the grounds of this 14th Century historic house – plus family entertainment for all ages.
5. Blackburn Heritage Festival, Blackburn Town Centre
12-14 September
The two day event includes steam engines, Victorian fairground rides, clog dancing, canal trips, history walks, vintage market traders, street theatre, costumes and a pop up bandstand.
