Sunday Roast at The Craven Heifer

Having my brother and his friend over from Sweden over the weekend I decided that their visit couldn't pass without a proper English Sunday Roast dinner. Living in the Ribble Valley I am very lucky to have a vast number of pubs serving excellent home cooked food on my doorstep - the only problem was choosing where to take them... After much deliberation we opted for the Craven Heifer at Chaigley, which sits in the foothill of Longridge Fell in the Forest of Bowland.

Cruising on the Lancaster Canal

Friday morning saw the start of the new season for the Packet Boat water bus on the Lancaster Canal. It was a wet and cold morning on the water but the welcome on board the canal boat was extremely warm! With an endless supply of food and hot tea we sat back and enjoyed the view.

Welcoming Walkers & Cyclists

I spent the morning at the Priory in Scorton at the launch the new 'Welcoming Walkers & Cyclists' leaflet. Despite the high winds, we attracted a group of cyclists from the Garstang cycling club, who joined us for a press photograph.

Rural Adventures

As a member of the Lancashire Rural Tourism Initiative (LRTi for short) team I was lucky enough to spend yesterday visiting some of the rural tourism businesses that have received funding support from the project. It was great seeing first hand how the grant money had been spent - everything from all-terrain access vehicles for those with limited mobility to new car parks at visitor attractions!

Stand and Deliver!

  I rushed away from work on Friday to get up to Holgates Caravan Park with some friends for the weekend. A great haven courtesy of my parents who have a caravan (more like cool crash pad) there. First thing on the menu was food and wine so a quick stop at Booths in Carnforth saw me stocking up on Morecambe Bay Shrimps and crusty bread (starters), Bowland beef with all the trimmings (main) and a selection of great Lancashire cheeses for if we made it through the rest (which we did).

Taste Lancashire - is it good?

I am lucky enough to be working on Taste Lancashire 08 for a few weeks and I couldn't think of a nicer job, although I admit my appetite has ballooned since I started here. Why - because I am looking at pictures of food all day. Yum.
